A Note about Covid-19 Situation

Hello Sapperton Residents,

During this time of uncertainty, community is more important than ever. Although we are all engaging in social distancing and staying at home as much as possible, it is also important for us to watch out for our neighbours who may be struggling for a variety of reasons: elderly residents who live alone and may not be able to receive visitors, or who find it difficult to get out to shop for basic goods; those with young children who no longer have daycare; those who rely on transit but are nervous about exposing themselves to the Covid-19 virus on the bus or Skytrain; those who have recently lost employment and are scrambling to make ends meet.

As we spend more time in our homes, let us also try to keep in touch with our neighbours and community members who may be finding this period particularly stressful and challenging. Some ways in which we may be able to help one another:

– Offering to pick up groceries or do other errands for neighbours who find it difficult to do so themselves

– Taking our neighbours’ garbage and recycling bins out for them

– Offering to walk our neighbours’ dogs

– Call, email or text neighbours just to say “hi” and to check in on them

– Joining the New West Helping Hands Facebook group to offer services or to ask for help if you need it:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/777172272806141/

This is a group with over 1400 members from all over New Westminster helping one another in a variety of ways.

If you have ideas on how we can help one another during this challenging time, or are in need of help and are unsure of who to contact, please contact the RA and we will try to answer your questions to the best of our ability. We will all get through this challenging time together. There is power in community.

Wishing you all good health, please note we will not be having our regular membership and AGM scheduled for April 2. We will send out a notice when if we are able to resume in June.
